where ning ning and shan shan come to multiply!

better than ningningshanshan.blogspot.com, ningningshanshan.multiply.com is the place where ning ning and shan shan come to multiply... their mush. so instead of just mush and pictures. now you get mush, pictures, music, video, mushy recipes, mushy reviews... blah blah blah. so if "sweetypoo stuff" gets under your skin... move along, nothing for the fainthearted here.

BLEAG

twinkle twinkle little star.

four years and a bit. no more in UNI, working like crazy, just bought a house, and gonna get married.

but of course, the most important change is....

ning ning ran around NUS yesterday. without stopping. without automated aids, in 30 minutes!

three cheers!

cable cars

there are some famous quotes for the day. such as

"why is this thing so high above the ground?" to "hey these aren't as good as the ones in switzerland... *stare at ground* no where as good as the ones in switzerland at all!"

but after the sweaty palms, and the constant sussing of the pockets, he finally produced a twinkle which can be seen in the dark. and over a candlelit (or should i say, lightbulb lit for fear of burning the entire cable car down and ending in a flamy fury into sentosa port) dinner in a jewel-death-defying-box-of-a-cable-car he finally asked...

"So, we've been together for 3 years and 9 months now...."

Followed by, "thank god we can finally get out of this damn cable car..."

delayed - back!

am finally back to warmer climes, airconditioned subways and singlish. i can only say that london seems like a distant memory. i don't really recall how i got there, or when i got back. i miss the people there, for sure. but strangely, i don't really miss the city itself.

I do however miss the countryside. And I miss the friends I've met there, and our strange obsession with House dvds and Jessica Alba. Yes, yes... the guy to girl ratio is like 30:1 in the industry... and after a while you do get influenced... Like how our dear Alba has the most amazing toosh, and how Liv Tyler is kinda pouty *BJ lipped* kinda cute.

*ahem* But, that being said, I guess London is a haze

(literally, figuratively, and most definitely...although I would like to clarify that it was NOT licentious or androgynous...at least not for myself: DVDs don't count. they're the epitome of a "suspension of disbelief and sexuality" when you're watching with a bunch o' guys)

a short obituary

and so, after seven-six years, it's no longer.

and we'll be teaching our kids that the solar system has eight planets,
and that mercury is the smallest. no use peering into deep space once
you've seen neptune through a telescope... nothing more than a couple
of rocky moons out there.

sometimes i wish there were still imperfections, and idiosyncracies,
and quirks in science. because they are. and because since rules are
made to be broken, and will continue to be broken, bending them a bit
is okay once in a while.
"Second Class Honours (Upper Division)"
Second Class Honours (Upper Division):
NingNing

So congratulations to my brilliant girlfriend, for four years of
hard work and sweat and non-stop determination, an internship and lots
of other commitments (shanshan included) in between, which ultimately
culminated in two majors and a minor, and a well-deserved second-upper.
Good things certainly come to those who deserve it... and more often
than not, they come at the very end.

Doesn't matter that the margin at the end was a hair's breath CAP of
4.01... a second upper is still a second upper. Oh and I forgot
to mention that she did it in three years, because the first year was
spent in the bowels of econs department. So yeah... all that achieved
in less time than most other people.
graduation day

graduation day for shanshan!

yesterday we went to the new Sushi Tei at Raffles City. They're having $10 unagi bento set that is HEAVENLY! Some of their premium sushi is also pretty good.

we also went to watch "thank you for not smoking" which is HILARIOUS and brilliantly written. A must-see at the new Cathay (yes, we're old, laggard and very not up to date), which has a lovely bar-lounge with an excellent ex-Shangri La bar tender who provides great service. they're having a 2 SG sling + 6 mid-wing snack for $20 promotion right now.

And yes, those ARE 3 std drinks in each SG sling.

So over dinner, he's *ahem* whining about how he has to go for commencement and how he got a scolding from his parents because he didn't wanna go. To which I was like, "Yah! You deserve it you spoilt brat!"

commencement

this saturday i am going to officially graduate at a
ceremony the university calls “commencement”. they used to call it “convocation”,
and i don’t quite know what inspired the name-change, but the bare essentials more
or less stay the same.

for a few hours in the afternoon, a few hundred science
honours, masters and doctoral grads are going to don funny blue maternity
dresses with black square hats, and each have his or her thirty seconds of
attention during which the graduand enters stage left, shakes the hand of a
person he probably hasn’t met before, receives what the university calls an “irreplaceable”
piece of paper (“irreplaceable” because “if you lose it, we’re not going to
print another one for you), take a photograph, and exits stage right.

for a large proportion, in fact most, of the graduating
batch, this ostensibly represents the pinnacle of their lives. and rightly so…
if you’ve worked at the expense of many other things for three or four ...

International Bullshit Solutions

So, here am I being the ever faithful and dutiful tech geek who wants to reformat my comp.

And lo and behold, I find out that IBM (i.e., the now we-are-so-not-into-retail and highly defunct PC company, which has been taken over by Chinese tech giants Lenovo and random out-sourced-to-malaysia tech staff) ....

Has this really stupid and complex program that you have to download (210MB to be exact, not including when it's expanded like a horrific old and decrepit jack in the box of an .exe) and install JUST SO that you can create a bootable recovery disk, before you can access your program recovery disks.

anyone want to buy a hyundai?

as part of the customer loyalty programme of komoco motors, which has
the unenviable task of distributing hyundai in singapore (has anyone
told them that situating their showroom between honda and toyota

flip over to the first page and you are overwhelmed by a deluge of

"There are many ways of going to heaven. This is definitely a good way of going to heaven"

"Well. Some people give their money to BH to manage because we're good at managing money. I'm just giving my money away to someone who's better at giving it away than I am"

Quotable quotes from the reporters?

"After having spent a lifetime earning that, he's giving it away to someone who's earned more than he has - Bill Gates"

*******************

Gah. Suddenly makes my plans to make a monthly contribution seem so... err... err...

*what's that word that slips me now???*

*chants - every little bit counts*

the world of lingo

sighs.

lingo is something strange. it forms an exclusionary group that defines the inner and the outer, and those living on the egde.

it isn't that one can't learn the lingo, but in learning it, one wonders what's the opportunity cost? *ponder ponder*

sighs.

no more chocolate!!!!

went down to the fridge at two in the morning to quell some nagging hunger pang, and was hoping to find plenty left of excellent swiss chocolate, and suddenly realised that i was down to my last bar. not my last bar of 70% cacao, or my last bar of praline, or my last bar of hazelnut creme, but really the last bar of chocolate left from the swiss trip.

i bought 5 kilos of the stuff. how?!?! let's see... there was the 1 kg that i ate on the plane on the way back to save weight, and the 1 kg of lindt i gave in various forms to my parents, her parents, and ning ning herself (think lindt pralines in a hand-made box :) ), which should have left me with 30 bars of munz.

and of the 30 bars, 5 bars of pralines went to various members of the loh family, along with 1 bar of cacao. 4 bars went to various people in IBN, 1 bar to my cousin. 2 more bars went to the tuition kid, which should have left me with at least fifteen bars.

which are somehow all gone! dang.

i highly suspect that they put f...
